Some things you may say to your Member of Parliament

  • Move more ADEs towards the adoption of the Supported Wage System (SWS)
  • The Supported Wage System is the only wage assessment tool accepted in open employment. It is a valid tool with proven results! It is fair because it calculates an employee’s wage based simply on productivity
  • In addition to the Supported Wage System, Australian Disability Enterprises are currently able to use up to 29 different wage assessment tools that calculate an employee’s wage using both productivity and competency
  • Competency based assessments significantly disadvantage many employees, particularly those with intellectual disabilities. (As found by the Federal Court of Australia in Nojin v Commonwealth)
  • Employees are more likely to be financially better off working under the SWS than if they were to only receive a Disability Support Pension (DSP). A person’s (DSP) is safe working under the SWS
  • The Supported Wage System should be the only wage assessment tool used in Australia if required for all employees with disability regardless of the type of disability.
